Senior Creative Foundry Director

Dan Rhatigan

In his words.

I see typography as my artistic medium of choice. It's the lens through which I see the whole world.

—Dan Rhatigan.

Dan Rhatigan is Senior Creative Foundry Director at Monotype. Based in Portland, Oregon, he has decades of specialized experience in design and typography.

Dan started out as a graphic designer in publishing, and his love of typography led to typeface design. He moved to the UK to complete an MA at the University of Reading, after which he undertook a two-year research project with Monotype. Afterwards, he joined Monotype as a Type Director, leading custom projects for clients such as CNN, Salesforce, Southwest Airlines, and the Times of London.

In 2016, Dan joined Adobe as senior manager for font development, moving on a few years later to handle foundry relations for other font distributors. During this time, he launched his own foundry — Bijou Type — taking inspiration from years of research into the use of type in independent publishing.

After almost a decade in these other corners of the type industry, Dan returned to Monotype to work on strategic direction of the vast collection of fonts we publish and distribute. He now works as part of Creative Services, looking after Monotype’s design collaboration with our foundry partners.
