Monotype’s industry-leading Page Description Languages PCL5/6 and XPS embedded RIP technologies have UFST font rasterizers and 100% HP-compatible trademarked font sets built-in by default. We also offer Adobe PostScript and PDF technologies. These PDLs work with any host output; accelerate performance by using them in tandem with Monotype Printer Drivers that generate optimized, low-footprint PDL data.

PCL5/6 and XPS

Programmable Output Format examples:

  • Any number of planes up to 8
  • Each plane can be 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 16, 24, 32, 48, or 64 bits deep
  • Device decides how each plane is drawn (contone, halftone, tag information, and others)
  • Flexibility to change format for each sheet or each side; examples:
    • 24-bit sRGB or 24/48-bit device-specific RGB, 24/48-bit CMY, 32/64-bit CMYK, interleaved or planar
    • CMYK4 (1:1:1:1), CMYK7 (2:2:2:1), KCMYcm6, RGB24 + 1-bit K,
    • Tag planes
    • Uncountable combinations: only limits are the maximum number of planes and bit depths

Advanced features from drivers:

  • N-up, booklets, watermarks, etc.
  • Available for use by device and via op-panel
  • Potential interface for use by scanner portions of MFP

Achieve world-class quality with common code and automated closed-loop testing versus a known good output:

  • Nightly testing of the rasterizer function and compatibility on over 6,000 test cases multiplied by different configurations
  • Weekly testing of performance & memory utilization for 38 spreadsheets covering Intel and PPC architectures
  • Extremely high achievement result on the industry-standard test suite.
