Norbert Krausz
Creative Type Designer, Monotype

I am fascinated by how rule-based traces of a tool create shapes that in turn give rise to a huge variety of rhythmic textures, which we ultimately refer to as writing systems.

Norbert Krausz joined Monotype in 2015, spending nearly a decade as a Font Engineer before moving into a dedicated Type Designer role. This dual experience allows him to approach type from multiple angles. He enjoys drawing shapes as much as pondering code. Over the years, he has contributed to numerous custom projects and was the lead Engineer on major library releases, including Futura Now, FF DIN and CJK projects like Tazugane Gothic.

Before joining Monotype, Norbert worked as a graphic designer on book, brand, and editorial designs. As his fascination with black-and-white forms continued to grow, he went on to study typeface design at the University of Reading, where he earned an MATD, marking the beginning of his journey into the world of type.

When Norbert is not busy with type, he can often be found outdoors on hiking trails, playing guitar, or experimenting with the next delicious stew recipe.
