Monotype Reinforces Leadership at the Intersection of Type, Culture, and Brand in 2025

  • Strong year of growth, investment, and global partnerships positions the company for continued long-term success.

WOBURN, Mass. — December 23, 2025 — Monotype Imaging Inc., a global leader in type and technology, looks back on a strong 2025 marked by innovation, strategic partnerships, and disciplined execution, reinforcing its role as a trusted partner to brands and creative teams worldwide.

As organizations face growing complexity across digital channels, global markets, and AI-assisted creative workflows, Monotype has continued to help customers balance expressive design with the systems, governance, and scalability required to build consistent brands at scale. Throughout the year, the company delivered growth while strengthening its platform, enterprise capabilities, and operational foundations.

Expanded Adobe Partnership Increases Access to World-Class Typography
In 2025, Monotype expanded its long-standing partnership with Adobe, adding more than 750 iconic typefaces to Adobe Creative Cloud. The expansion made professional-grade typography available directly within designers’ everyday tools, reducing friction and accelerating creative workflows.

Monotype also returned to Adobe MAX 2025, where the company showcased new tools, typefaces, and workflow integrations for branding, marketing, and digital media teams.

“Great type should be easy to find and easy to use,” said Ninan Chacko, CEO of Monotype. “By expanding our work with Adobe, we’re putting exceptional typography in front of creators at the moment inspiration strikes — and that access leads to better design everywhere.”

2025 was a strong year for Monotype,” Chacko added. “We delivered growth while continuing to invest thoughtfully in our platform and operations, positioning the business for ongoing sustainable, long-term success.”

Partnership with Canva Reaches Design Milestone
In March, Monotype and Canva celebrated over 1 billion designs created using fonts from the Monotype library, demonstrating the power of combining premium typography with accessible design. Monotype and Canva’s ongoing partnership provides millions of designers and non-designers alike with the resources to bring their ideas to life, with seamless access to more than 1,800 curated typefaces from Monotype and foundry partners from around the world.

New Reports Highlight Shifts in Creative Work and Brand Expression
During 2025, Monotype published four global reports examining how typography, culture, and technology continue to shape creative work:

  • The 2024 Font Use & Forecasting Survey report, released in February 2025, revealed how type use is changing across the globe. Research highlighted the rising popularity of subscription-based design platforms (89%) and the central importance of font choice in the creative process (83%). It also revealed that 91% see the potential for AI tools to be useful in the type industry, with 75% optimistic or neutral about the potential impact of AI on their roles.
  • The Scaling Creative Operations report examined how in-house teams and agencies manage speed, scale, and brand consistency. The research found that creative teams increasingly recognize operational tools as foundational business infrastructure, with 82% of teams rating font management as critical to their creative operations.
  • Re:Vision — Type Trends 2025 explored how creativity is shaping and being shaped by global trends, including AI, regional conflict, generational divides, and climate change. Sharing insights and perspectives from designers, Re:Vision’s explorations of AI type design tools and new modes of expression delved into the evolving nature of the partnership between human designers and AI, showcasing the enduring importance of human creativity.
  • The Fonts, Feels, & Reels research report focused on typography’s role in social media and digital culture. Nearly 80% of survey respondents reported using distinctive, well-selected fonts boosts engagement on social media posts, underscoring typography’s growing influence on brand perception and engagement.

Design doesn’t happen in isolation — it reflects culture, technology, and emotion,” said Charles Nix, Senior Executive Creative Director at Monotype. “It’s tempting to think of design as either a thing or an action, but it’s both — and more than that. Typography operates as an ecosystem for communication, conveying information and feeling between minds. That’s why understanding how type makes people feel is now as important as how it functions.

Global Engagement and Industry Presence
Throughout the year, Monotype engaged with designers, brand leaders, and marketers at major global events including SXSW and Cannes Lions, as well as industry conferences and design festivals worldwide. These conversations focused on how typography supports storytelling, brand systems, and modern identity at scale.

Supporting Emerging Creative Talent
In 2025, Monotype deepened its commitment to the next generation of creatives through partnerships with the D&AD New Blood and Cannes Lions Young Lions programs, and its ongoing sponsorship of the Type Directors Club Adé Hogue and Beatrice Warde student scholarships. Through mentorship, access to professional-grade typography, and hands-on creative challenges, Monotype continued to support emerging talent in the creative and type industry.

Pantone Collaboration Explores the Relationship Between Color and Type
In partnership with Pantone, Monotype introduced a typographic expression for the Pantone Color of the Year 2026, PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer, pairing the tone with Jensen Arabique™, a typeface designed by Jason Castle of CastleType. The collaboration highlighted how typography and color work together to create mood, meaning, and brand expression.

Showcasing Type’s Impact
Working with brands from all over the world, Monotype demonstrated the substantial influence of type on design, culture, politics, and beyond. Customer stories this year included three standouts:

Monotype Fonts Platform Continues to Grow
Monotype Fonts reached a significant milestone in 2025, expanding to more than 250,000 fonts across over 300 languages. The platform also introduced enhancements to discovery, onboarding, and enterprise licensing, helping global teams move faster while reducing legal and operational complexity.

Companies are under more pressure than ever to move quickly without sacrificing consistency,” said Chacko. “Our focus is on removing friction through clearer licensing, smarter tools, and a platform designed for modern brand teams.”
