Monotype Announces Collections from DSType and Kastelov Joining the Monotype Family

WOBURN, Mass., April 19th, 2024 — Today Monotype Imaging Inc., a global leader in type and technology, announced type collections from European foundries DSType and Kastelov are joining the Monotype library. These type collections include over 150 font families with diverse styles ranging from workhorse text to emotive display families. 

Mary Catherine Pflug, Senior Director of Foundry Product & Operations at Monotype, said, “Kastelov and DSType are examples of two foundries that got their start selling fonts with MyFonts—DSType almost 20 years ago and Kastelov almost 10 years ago—and since then have rocketed into successful businesses reaching brands worldwide and starting type trends with their font releases. I know how much their fonts resonate with designers, so I am excited to welcome their fonts to Monotype’s library and see what these great type designers do next.” 

Founded by designer Dino dos Santos, Portuguese foundry DSType has been designing type for 30 years, creating high-value type in a range of styles. Typefaces include Acta Variable, Keiss, Mesclo, and Quase, among others. With this acquisition, all 151 font families and 1,555 fonts from DSType’s first type collection will be available exclusively from Monotype. The independent type foundry will now be pursuing projects focusing on creating new scripts for global audiences.

Designer Galin Kastelov founded the Kastelov foundry in Bulgaria in 2005. The Kastelov type collection includes a variety of functional contemporary typefaces designed for everyday use. The collection comprises five font families, with Nolan, Nolan Next, Intelo, Axiforma, and Kinetika, and 104 font styles, all of which will be available exclusively through Monotype. Moving forward, Kastelov will be stepping away from type to pursue ventures in technology and entrepreneurship.

Both DSType and Kastelov’s type collections will now be available exclusively on MyFonts and Monotype Fonts, which combine more than 150,000 fonts with the expertise of Monotype’s world-renowned type designers and trusted, secure font management in a single platform. Future releases from DSType will be available through Monotype Fonts and MyFonts.
