On the eve of his exhibition launch and latest book release, Alan Kitching invited Monotype into his studio to talk collaborations, exclusive merchandise and the importance of a designer’s sketchbook.
Over the past two years, Monotype has collaborated with world-renowned typographer, designer and letterpress practitioner Alan Kitching on numerous projects; from Century, a celebration of 100 years of graphic design greats, to a touring student workshop which visited universities and colleges across the UK.
This year, Monotype is proud to be supporting Alan in his next venture – A Life In Letterpress – a milestone biography and touring exhibition of his work, which will visit a total of five locations in the UK throughout 2016.
On the eve of the exhibition launch at Somerset House, we stopped by Alan’s studio with A Life In Letterpress author, John Walters, to discuss the exclusive Monotype merchandise Alan has produced, and to hear how a two-year collaboration has grown, and continues to grow.
In this short film Alan takes us behind the making of aprons, postcards and posters, and shares with us the contents of his own sketchbooks – all filled with sketches of Bob Dylan!
